Gold... originally a gas from the center of the earth! (A soft somewhat worthless metal, but one that will not tarnish).
This page deals more with what it does to people than what they do with it... It will cause many problems for those who worship and cherish it like richer people, also those who require a large amount of it as part of the marriage contract, like the Muslims... This metal is responsible for more death than all other metals combined, with the exception of lead.
A cubic foot of gold is very heavy, well over a thousand pounds... Notice the gold in pictures on our other pages about history... all gold nugget containers were always reinforced barrels, strong metal cans, or heavy canvas bags. (Although glass is also strong enough, it is not recommended for obvious reasons. Only people suffering from vanity show off gold nuggets this way)!
In the past I have seen it in quart jars just sitting around on shelves in many of the homes throughout the Black Hills, lately it has been buried more than displayed due to the greed factor, (and the change that has come over these people). Before 1979 I saw it in barrels and buckets, sometimes raw nuggets as large as your thumb by the fist-full, just loose in bags or pouches carried by those with holes in their pockets! (The price of "nugget" gold going from not much over a hundred to almost a thousand an ounce changed all that). To this day a nice pure raw nugget weighing an ounce can sell for almost one thousand dollars to people who make jewelry out of such things, thirty years ago it was hard to get the going rate of gold price... (People knew you took it directly from the ground, or your dead relative! They also knew the tax was not paid and the profit had not been declared... you were penalized for that back then, normally about ten to twenty percent). One deal I was involved with, (by a man who killed his partner in Alaska for it), was at a forty percent discount... He was offering many pounds of gold all at one time, sold in a hurry, and he only wanted one buyer involved... that was stupid! (I also know another man who spent over ten years selling his family's gold, one nugget at a time, he always got over twice market value). A few of the Indians I know have many pounds of it too, but they are not in a hurry to sell though, some of it has been buried since before the gold rush... Most of it has reportedly been moved a number of times through the years, but never sold or traded, it is also said to be cursed. Those who know about it are wiser than most and fear the powers or the problems associated with so much money. Why sell it and be rich, they like being poor too much, nobody bothers them that way! I have actually seen only one pile of it so far, but was very afraid at the time. It is strange when you go with them to dig it up and look... mostly strange the feeling you get when you see it in the sunlight, like someone is all of a sudden right there watching you from the back or something. The only other time I have gotten this same feeling was involving a ghost in the Franklin Hotel in the early nineties... (almost the same feeling anyway). It is hard to describe it, something you cannot put your finger on, but you feel very strange. The feeling goes away the second the sun is shaded from this metal. I do not understand it, and cannot explain it, but there is also tremendous fear involved, like when death is first witnessed up close and personal. Right away you want to get away... your mind speeds up with your heart, you are very afraid until you sleep, if you can sleep afterwards...
